The DJI Osmo mobile 2, recently launched at the CES 2018 is the sequel to the famous DJI Osmo mobile. It’s the company’s most popular and refined gimbal for smartphone cameras than any other tested so far. Osmo mobile 2 uses Artificial intelligence to track the presence of subjects and with more enriched features; it is ready to take over its rival gimbal companies.
DJI Osmo mobile 2 Specifications
The DJI Osmo mobile 2 is a big upgrade when considering the design, features and specifications. It weighs 485 g with the dimensions of 295 x 113 x 72 mm. It is made up of high-strength nylon, which makes it lighter and easier to carry in comparison to the previous model, which had a magnesium and plastic base.
Besides, the handle is revised to be more ergonomic, making it comfortable to hold for long video sessions. The gimbal has a power button and a mode-switching button to switch orientation modes manually. In addition, there is a dedicated record button, a thumb pad and a physical zoom switch on the side.
Maybe the most convenient thing to the Osmo Mobile 2’s body is the new spring-loaded clamp, which lets you easily swap out phones of all sizes without having to unlock and lock screws. Besides, there is no tension for your phone shaking loose, or falling down; the clamp won’t let go of the phone forever. This is tried and tested on all phones including Samsung, iPhone, Huawei and Nokia.
The gimbal is very useful for using both Snapchat and Instagram Stories. You can switch the phone between the two orientation modes while recording stories. However, this has to be done manually, by turning a button on its back and for that, you’ll have to take off your phone each time. Sadly, this becomes one of the DJI Osmo mobile 2 problems. Others include having a micro USB port rather than a USB-C port. In addition, you cannot flip the cameras during recording.
DJI Osmo Mobile 2 Release Date
The Osmo Mobile 2 officially goes on sale in February 2018 for a surprisingly cheaper rate of $219(about £95, AU$164). At the same low price, you get an amazing design and refinements in the features. Apart from that, there are Osmo Mobile 2 pre-orders starting from January 23 through the Apple Store.
DJI Osmo Mobile 2 Features
The secret behind its incredible features is the three-axis gimbal technology with amazing sensors and motors that automatically handle any movements and pivot-points. The two-way clamp lets you shoot in different modes.
The DJI Osmo Mobile 2 battery has a 15 hour life to stay active throughout your travel adventures. It can also connect to your smartphone via Bluetooth, enabling you to zoom or control directly from the buttons on the gimbal. Next, a DJI GO mobile app, available on the Play Store acts an intermediary between the phone and gimbal to use the zoom function, or adjust settings and select different modes. Just tap on the Camera option to activate the application.
The DJI Osmo Mobile 2 camera can be easily controlled, once you pair your phone and the gimbal. Just with a single tap on the mode button, you can lock the camera meanwhile a double tap will centre the camera in case if the gimbal wanders to any other direction. A triple-press will switch on the front-camera. Though its not possible to flip back and forth between both the front and back camera while recording a video. Instead, you’ll have to stop, flip the camera and begin recording again.
According to the DJI Osmo Mobile 2 reviews, this version is much better than the original in all departments – price, features, battery life, controls, weight and intelligence. A must buy!
