A Step ahead to the Future: Dell XPS 13


Dell clearly has set better New Year resolutions this coming year. The company is stepping into 2018 with its Dell XPS 13 makeover. Surely, it must have been a difficult decision: transforming from an 8-year-old flagship design to moving into the future with a model as thin, light and fast. Dell XPS 13 Specs

Dell XPS 13 the 2018 version has an improved set of specifications that makes it a tough competitor for its rivals. It comprises of 1.8GHz Intel Core i7-8550U processor that is quad-core with an 8-MB cache memory. There are three USB ports, a micro SD card reader and a headset jack. Besides, it has a 16GB powerful RAM for fast running applications in parallel.


XPS 13 will have Intel UHD Graphics and a thin, sleek 13.3-inch, Ultra HD screen. The Dell XPS 13 Display is Ultra HD, ultra-Sharp, infinity edge and touch enabled.

The laptops has a widescreen HD (720p) camera with four array digital microphones. It weighs 2.67 pounds and has dimensions of 11.9 x 7.8 x 0.3-0.46 inches. This is for the first time in months that Dell has come up with a design as thinner and lighter as the previous model. The dimensions have slimmed down around 30% and a touch lighter at 1.21 kg. The models are available in two beautiful colours: Rose Gold on Alpine white complementing it with a coloured keyboard deck, and silver on black.

The keyboard deck encompasses a crystalline silica material woven exotically into it like a fabric. This is the first time in the history of Dell; a fibre has been woven into a laptop. In addition, the base contains a titanium oxide coating which makes it a stronger resistor of stains.

Dell XPS 13 Price

Surprisingly, going a little high with the price, Dell will be offering the XPS 13 at $999 (£1,269, about AU$2,190) as starting unlike the previous XPS 13’s price of $799. However, this too varies if you opt for XPS with a bit of advanced features.

The starting price lets you have the normal HD display, Intel Core i5 processor, 4GB RAM and a 128GB SSD card inside. Moreover, if you go for an 8GB memory and 256GB of SSD space, the price doubles to a massive $2,499 (about £1,848, AU$3,189).

One of the major drawbacks is the varying prices in colour option. Rose Gold on Alpine White is more expensive than the standard silver black model, of $1,249 at starting.

Dell XPS 13 Features

The beautiful XPS 13 has a number of features that ranks it one of the top laptops so far. Firstly, the webcam that is now replaced by an IR lens, which could be used well for speedy logins. It is designed with four microphones for stronger video communications with your friends and family.

Apart from that, XPS 13 is coated with an anti-reflective coating on its touch screens, which makes it stronger and protects in case of any damage. In addition, Dell is pushing its use of Gore thermal insulation for stronger heat dissipation in CPUS.

Lastly, Dell XPS 13 Battery has a life of 5 hours and 22 minutes on a whole better than the previous versions. The battery is very impressive for a laptop like XPS 13 also with a 4K display. Dell like always has not disappointed its users and evolved this new version into a more intimidating and formidable one.
