Android Makers All Set To Follow Apple’s iPhone X For Facial Recognition

Smartphone manufacturers always compete with each other and try to introduce features better and more advanced than others. The latest feature that is revolutionizing the world of smart devices is that of the Facial recognition and manufacturers are working continuously to infuse a fingerprint sensor under the glass. Next year will see a big advancement related to the Facial recognition and it will be similar to Apple’s Face ID system.

According to industry Analyst, Ming-Chi Kuo, Android manufacturers don’t want to be left behind and they want to work on the face scanning technology to introduce it in the upcoming year. According to people, iPhone X’s face recognition system is a great update and it will help the people in boosting sales and adding security. This advancement will also bring up options for the use of Augmented Reality such as that of the crazy lens feature of Snapchat.

So, whether you’re an Apple fan or not, the smartphones’ manufacturer has left everyone behind specially when it introduced the facial recognition feature in its latest phone. There were some additions of the Face ID system in the previous models of iPhone, but the revelation of iPhone X revealed that they can do it in the best way. According to Mac rumors, Apple’s introduction of this feature will turn the Android manufacturers towards the touch-based sensors rather than the facial recognition system software.

Kuo’s research notes state that 3D sensing is an important feature as compared to the under-the-glass fingerprint scanning system, as it allows the users to create cool expressions similar to Apple’s Animoji, and is also a great step for the security scanning. 3D scanning allows facial recognition for security purposes and is a great development in AR.

The most popular and well-known companies that are working for Android makers are Qualcomm, Himax, Mantis Vision, and Orbbec and the features offered by Qualcomm and Himax are considered as the most advanced ones.

According to Kuo, within two or three years the Android phones will be equipped with 3D sensors and they will replace all the devices that are using an under-the-glass fingerpring scanning system. This is because 3D sensors will be compatible with many types of Android devices while the under-the-panel scanners work with the OLED displays only.

Samsung dominates the sector of high-end OLED displays and thus these panels will be harder to find. According to most of the analysts, the decision of Android makers to go towards the 3D sensors technology is not a step to copy Apple and it is, in fact, a necessity.

Whatever the situation is, it is evident that these features will not be available on the small and cheap devices as only the high-end and premium devices will be equipped with this technology. The Face ID system is not going to be a common feature for several upcoming years as it is an advanced one and no low-end devices will be able to introduce it.
